National Sandwich Day
[via snapalicious:adamiss]

So today is National Sandwich Day, which coincidentally falls on the birthday of John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich. A really good day if you ask us. In honor of that here is a little listicle on places we like to stuff ourselves on real good heroes:
Four Places I Like To Get Sandwiches In Brooklyn
Emily’s Pork Store - Located right on Graham mere steps from Daddy’s, Legion Bar, The Richardson, and numerous other places where you can and probably do get sloshed on a regular basis. Beyond the sandwiches the shop is known for their vast selection of traif of all stripes and one should always trust any place that has an old man behind the counter telling you what’s good.
City Sub - For an unassuming storefront on a street that only recently has started to become more lively City Sub packs quite a wallop. So big in fact that oftentimes it is hard to keep everything inside the sandwich. They have an extensive array of fixings and some 30 or so choices on offer. We’ve tried just about everything on the menu here and have never been let down. It is on Bergen Street between Flatbush and 5th Ave. City Sub is hands down out favorite sandwich in town. When we’ve been traveling it is often the first meal I will eat when I get back in town. And I’d give away my firstborn child to know where their bread comes from.
Defonte’s - You might know it as the place famous for the severe belly buster heroes or you might have posited that the sandwich which Liz Lemon had to down (like a total champ we might add) at the airport in an episode of 30 Rock came from this Red Hook staple. Either way you cut it (straight across or diagonally into a wedge) Defonte’s can’t be beat. I like the original location right near the BQE. I have not yet eaten at their Manhattan outpost though. The one drawback is that Defonte’s is closed Sundays which is the day we usually are down in Red Hook toiling away at our job-away-from-job in a dirty warehouse on the pier across from Fairway.
G. Esposito and Sons - Another unassuming little shop, this one located on Court Street, the fine people at Esposito know their sandwiches. I used to rely on this spot as a regular hangover cure and for those on a budget you can munch on just one of their stuffed heroes and be set for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The lighting inside is yellow and shitty, there are juices dropping from the meats and cheeses dangling from the ceiling, and they have a one of those painted plaster pigs wearing an apron on the sidewalk in front of the place ushering you in…what not to love?
